The Standards of Learning tests come under the microscope today.
Hearings are scheduled in several Virginia cities for public comment on proposed changes in the history and social science S-O-Ls.
A handful of committees, mostly made up of teachers, recommend rewriting the history curriculum from kindergarten to 12th grade.
The proposed changes are designed to address concerns that the 19-95 standards were too broad and failed to reflect cultural diversity.
The state Board of Education could vote on the changes next month.

A Gretna man was killed in a Pittsylvania County accident.
State Police say the single-vehicle crash occurred shortly after midnight Sunday, about a mile East of Route 762.
Police say 38-year-old James Foster Osborne the Third was traveling west bound on Route 764 when his Pontiac Grand Am ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
Authorities believe alcohol DID play a role in the crash.

Members of the General Assembly will return to Richmond on Wednesday for their so-called ``short session.''
In odd-numbered years, lawmakers meet for 46 days ... compared to 60 day-sessions during even-numbered years.
Despite the tighter schedule this year, the Assembly is expected to consider more than 3,000 bills and resolutions.
The biggest item, mid-course corrections to the state's two-year budget.

A three count indictment was handed up last week against Tony Mancuso, the former General Manager for the Roanoke Express.
The indictment charges Mancuso and his former assistant James Higginbotham with embezzlement, obtaining money by false pretenses, and grand larceny. All of the allegations stem from the 1998-99 season.

[VO-NAT]
Head Coach Perry Florio was an assistant while Mancuso was the General Manager. Florio says at the time, he didn't realize Mancuso was allegedly making trade out arrangements intended for the benefit of the team that winded up being used for Mancuso's personal use.
Florio says perks given to the staff and players weren't a sign that business was booming.
