The General Assembly is just two days old and but the governor's already been dealt a blow by his own party.
The Republican chairman was careful to say it's NOT a thumb in the eye to the Governor.
But today, his committee killed a major funding mechanism for Gilmore's budget... meaning the car tax cut might be frozen for a year.

It was a busy night for members of the Roanoke County School Board.
Board members chose Hidden Valley High as the name for the new South County high school.
Mike Stovall was chosen as the new chairman.
The board also raised substitute pay to 75 dollars a day and came up with a new early retirement proposal that would provide a 20 percent supplement for seven years.
The board will vote on that at its next meeting in two weeks.

Henry County's plan to consolidate high schools is on hold, at least for now.

The Federal Communications Commision votes to approve the merger of America Online and time Warner.
It's the final step in the 106 billion dollar deal to create the nation's largest media company.
The F-C-C attached conditions that require the company to open A-O-L's instant messaging service to other providers.
The new company will be called AOL- Time Warner.
It'll combine the largest U-S internet provider and a media giant that owns CNN, H-B-O, Sports Illustrated and Warner Brothers.

Prosecutors say he charged personal expenses on his Tech credit card and submitted false invoices to the university.

The Cleveland Browns have fired head coach Chris Palmer. Palmer had a 5 and 27 record in two seasons with the Browns, who returned to the league in 1999.

Dick Vermeil and the Kansas City Chiefs are working out the details of a 3-year 10 million dollar contract that would make him one of the N-F-L's highest paid coaches.
The Rams let Vermeil out of his consultant's cotnract but it will cost the Chiefs a second and third round draft pick and Vermeil the 500-thousand he got from the rams this season.
