It happened at lunchtime- Police say a Lynchburg man's foot may have slipped- The man hit the accelerator and crashed his car into the crowded restaurant.

Two cars were headed for the same handicapped parking spot when one pulled in and just kept on going.

83- year- old Clayton Beasley's Cadillac smashed through the wall and into the restaurant, scattering tables, chairs and customers.
Bessie Phelps had gone to the restroom only seconds before.. the car landed directly on the table where she'd been sitting.

All told, nine people were taken to Lynchburg General Hospital for injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to a broken bone leg.. none appeared life-threatening.
Restaurant officials say about a hundred people were inside at the time.. had the accident occurred about twenty minutes later, at the height of the lunch crowd rush.. the situation might have been much different.

Talk about lucky escapes- California legislators made it out ok- after a tractor trailer plowed into the state capitol building- right in the middle of a state assembly meeting.
And it looks like this was no accident.

The truck driver died in the crash- Police say he did have a history of criminal and mental health problems.

Regulators have ordered rolling blackouts for the first time in the state's long power crisis.
They're blaming utility credit problems and a tight national power supply.
The scattered outages are expected to affect about 500-thousand customers for up to 90 minutes at a time.
A state official say's they've come to the "end of the road" when it comes to power resources.

Centra and Carilion today announced plans to form a 50-50 partnership in the ownership and operation of Carilion Bedford Memorial Hospital.

The Justice Department has a word of warning for those people who are planning to head to Tampa to attend the Super Bowl.
The department says you should pay close attention to ads from travel agents and tour operators. If they don't specifically say that a ticket to the game is included in a Super Bowl package, you may not be getting one, so be sure to ask.
