Rickey Young will be in federal court next week, but he won't be representing a client. An extensive investigation has led to seven charges against the attorney - including five counts of failing to file tax returns and two counts of mail fraud. Kate Weidaw talked with Young about the charges.

Young says his accountant in the 90's is to blame for his tax returns not being filed accurately, which has now resulted in the indictment.

The accountant told NEWS 7 she did NOT want to comment on Young's allegations because she is testifying during the case. Young also faces two counts of mail fraud resulting from purchasing and selling cars for a profit.

Young denies those charges... .charges he says have resulted in a loss of business and clients. He's no longer representing clients like Roanoke City Police Officer Frederick Pledge who's charged with drug trading and Wilbert Wesley Lewis who was shot by a Roanoke City Police Officer in the stomach. Young says he's worried about the money he has lost while preparing for this trial.

An early morning argument ends in gunfire. Martinsville police say Kareem Kilpatrick, of Harlem, New York, was shot several times in the chest and abdomen around two a-m on Dunlap Street. Investigators say an argument between Kilpatrick and several other men may have led to the shooting. Kilpatrick underwent surgery at Martinsville Hospital and is reportedly in stable condition. Police say they DO have suspects, but so far NO arrests have been made.

The Wallens Ridge Prison in Big Stone Gap has been accredited by the American Correctional Association. This... despite allegations against it. Two Connecticut inmates have died at the prison under questionable circumstances. The Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities is now investigating whether inmates are being abused and neglected at the prison.

The prize was a part of the grand-opening of the Sheetz gas station on Williamson Road in Roanoke. Proffitt's name was chosen at random .. She says while a thousand dollars sounds like a lot, she's sure she'll run through it pretty quickly...

This week in review, Norfolk Southern let loose some bad news. Earnings are up 13 million dollars this quarter, but profits are way down.
Under the company's latest restructuring plan, Norfolk Southern will reduce its workforce by about six percent over the next 12 months.

Valley View mall has reached its 15 year lease term.. so many stores will re-sign or leave this year.
Hecht's will be occupying the upper level of the old Montgomery Ward space.
Belk is expanding its store at the mall. The expansion is expected to be complete by the first week of November.


The Mall is also making some changes to the lower level and getting it ready for a new store.
And Matthew's Hallmark - one of two Hallmark stores at the mall - will close its doors tomorrow.

Tech led by as many as 11 but the Red Storm goes to Reggie Jessie his layin made it a 6 point game.
The Hokies maintained their cool Carlos Dixon takes it in for the score and the lead was nine.
