- set fire to a bedroom in her apartment at the (San Sues-E) San Souci complex around one this afternoon. Neighbors called the fire department after seeing heavy smoke coming out of the windows and roof. It took only a few minutes for fire fighters to extinguish the blaze.

Franklin County investigators believe they've caught four men responsible for a string of local hotel robberies ..

22-year-old Damien Lamont Hibbler, 18-year-old Marcus Purcel Johnson and 18-year-old Bryan Patrick Lowe, all from the Roanoke-Vinton area, were arrested last night after allegedly robbing a Budget Host Inn in Franklin County at gunpoint.
A fourth man turned himself in about an hour ago.

Investigators believe the same men held up the Econo-Lodge off Interstate 81 in Daleville last weekend. Authorities say the men are suspects in other robberies in Virginia and Rockingham County, North Carolina.

A delicate situation for Roanoke County Police tonight. Officers say it started with a domestic dispute ... continued as the husband and wife fought over a pistol ... and didn't end until the husband had fired a shot while police were outside.

The wife ran from her home on Givens Tyler Road to a nearby one .. and that's when police were summoned.
When they arrived, the woman told them her husband was barricaded inside on the porch of their home, with a gun.
The standoff lasted about 20 minutes before the husband was taken into custody. No one was hurt.
Police say a decision on charges await the outcome of a psychiatric evaluation.

Firefighters from Elliston and Roanoke County brought the fire under control .. No one was hurt - but investigators say the mobile home was a complete loss. There's no word on charges at this time.

A woman walking her dog in Roanoke County this afternoon discovered three Molotov cocktails on the side of the road.
Roanoke County Assistant Fire Marshal Rodney Ferguson says the woman found root-beer bottles containing gasoline and cloth in the 66-hundred block of Bradshaw Road. He says at this time he does NOT believe the Molotov cocktails are related to the fire on Bradshaw Road in Montgomery County. Authorities have NO suspects, but an investigation is underway.

The mood on the campus of Oklahoma State University is grim. A plane crash in Colorado yesterday killed eight people connected to the school's basketball program, including two players. Investigators say the crew the twin-engine plane had been warned that ice could form on the wings. ((The supervisors are demanding an apology from Gilmore. He said they should be voted out of office for raising the tax rate on personal property, including cars.
A viewer from Wytheville [Shane Funk] says the supervisors should get real.
"I pay out a lot of tax dollars and some government type dues and I don't pay our governor to apologize about saying that we should vote [people] out of office. If people would get out and vote [them] out we would not even be wasting time dealing with this mess."
From Buena Vista, another viewer [Dave Brumit] says he'd tell the supervisors:
"...Grow up and get used to people disagreeing with you. You have no inherent right to your position of trust. You are subject to voters. It is the business of politicians to try and persuade voters on how they should vote. Gilmore's statements were appropriate."

A Year ago, Ray Lewis was in chains, accused of murder in the wake of Super Bowl 34. Last night, he became the MVP of Super Bowl 35 as the Baltimore Ravens beat the New York Giants 34 to 7.

The Giants Keith Hamilton of Lynchburg's Heritage high school was introduced along with his other Giant defensive teammates before kick off.
The defensive struggle played out until Ravens quarterback Trent Dilfer hooked up with receiver Brandon Stokely on this 38 yard touchdown connection with 6:50 left in the first quarter. 7-nothing Baltimore.
Then, the Giants Kerry Collins throws one of his two first half interceptions. Ray Lewis tips the ball and former Virginia star Jamie Sharper pulls down the pick.
On the next play, it looks like new York had a touchdown when Jessie Armstead intercept the pass and goes the distance, but it was called back on a holding call against the Giants Hamilton.
Tiki Barber rushed 7 times for 44 yards in the first half, including a 27 yard scamper, but the Giants could not convert.
Baltimore's Matt Stover makes it 10 nothing on this 47 yard field goal with 1:55 left in the first half and that's your score at intermission.
The Ravens outscored the Giants 247 in the second half. Duane Starks intercepts a [SUPER=30-Baltimore/34/New York/7

;]Collins pas and goes 49 yards for the touchdown and Baltimore went up 17 to nothing. New York answered with it's only touchdown of the evening. Ron Dixon takes the ball from his three and goes 97 yards for the touchdown.

In ACC basketball action, ladies first. The Virginia Lady Cavaliers beat Wake Forest 76-73 in double overtime yesterday. Marcie Dickson scored 21 points and Schuye LaRue tallied 16 points, including all seven in the second OT for the win.

One golf note. Mark Calcavechia broke a 46 year old PGA tour record in winning the four Round Phoenix Open today. He fired a 72 hole score of 256, which beats the previous record set in 1955 by one stroke. Now you numbers.

(( The high school senior from South Lakes in Reston, ran a 3:59.86 mile last week at the New Balance Games in New York.
It's the first time a high school runner has completed a sub four minute mile indoors and the first time Marty Liquori did it outdoors in 1967.
The accomplishment earned him a spot in the most recent Sports Illustrated.
