(( It was a threat that reminded officials of the tragedy at Columbine High School. Early this morning, police shutdown the campus of a Northern California community college. It happened after the arrest of a 19-year-old man who had an arsenal of pipe bombs, Molotov cocktails and several weapons. ..and was believed to be targeting the school.
DOUG ROSER, SANTA CLARA CA SHERIFFS DEPT.: BECAUSE OF THE HIGH POPULATION HERE, AND A CONDENSED ATMOSPHERE, IT WAS CERTAINLY IMPORTANT TO EVACUATE THE CAMPUS.
Police immediately cordoned off the campus of De Anza College in Cupertino. Bomb squads then searched building to building, making sure the suspect had not already placed bombs in any of the 65 buildings on college compound.
IT WAS EVACUATED VERY CLEANLY. PEOPLE TOOK IT SERIOUSLY. FEW STUDENTS WERE STICKING AROUND.
Police say they originally learned of the plot after a tip. And shortly after learning of the mans arsenal, made an arrest. They describe him only as a current or former student And just like the massacre at Columbine High School, they say he planned to launch his attack around lunchtime.
