Police surrounded the home of Timothy Wade's mother Saturday night after receiving a tip he was inside. Officers wanted to serve Wade arrest warrants for bond revocation and failure to appear in court. They tear-gassed the home, but Wade was not inside. Authorities believe he may be hiding out in the area and they consider him armed and dangerous. If you have any information on his whereabouts, you should call Crimestoppers at area-code 540 632-7463.

Governor Jim Gilmore will be in the area presenting his point of view on the car tax today.
Gilmore is traveling around the state to take his case to the people for a full phase-out of the car tax in this budget.
He'll be in Roanoke at one this afternoon.
Back in Richmond, the House has upheld his phase-out in its budget this week.
But the Senate slows the tax phase-out -- reminding voters of the Governor's own promise to cut the tax only if state revenues continued growing.

Budget cuts could make the next year tough for several local museums and cultural attractions.

The Science Museum of Western Virginia in Roanoke is one such facility that's facing cuts. Last year-- the museum got 725- thousand dollars in state funding. This year-- the Governor offered no funding. And, the House and Senate budgets combined set aside just 150 thousand dollars. Museum officials say unless lawmakers come up with more money the 30- year old museum will have to scale back on its exhibits and hours.

The site was shut down last June when the Federal Government mandated higher water quality standards.
The station had no filtration system -- so it couldn't comply.
Roanoke City's Utility director has proposed a six and a half million dollar solution.
A "micro filtration" system would act like a strainer, getting micro-organisms out of the water.
Construction bids are out for the new facility.

It missed the goal by about seven million dollars.
Dan River's CEO blames the shortfall on sluggish retail sales primarily in home fashions.
