It was a 51 year old man who died in a fire last night- in Southwest Roanoke.

At first residents thought everyone was out- but that was not the case.
Firefighters found the body of Jeffrey Elwood Stanley in a back room of the house.
Flames ripped through the apartment house at Elm and Third around 10 last night.
Six other people who lived there lost their home in the blaze- The American Red Cross has offered them help.
Investigators say the fire was an accident -- they estimate 45-thousand dollars in damages.

It took more than five hours for firefighters to battle the blaze.
The smoke was heavy over North Franklin Street.

A Pulaski County mother is accused of having sex with high school students and giving at least one drugs.
Investigators arrested 43-year old Regina C. Quesenberry and charged her with having sex with kids between the ages of 15 and 18 and supplying marijuana to a minor.
She was released on 3-thousand dollars bond.
Quesenberry declined to comment.

Authorities in Salem say a man tried to cash a check at a local bank this afternoon.
He was refused, so they say he robbed the bank.

But the teller didn't see one.
The robber took an undisclosed amount of money, and ran away.

Anne Morrow Lindbergh died at her Vermont home.
Anne Morrow first met Charles Lindbergh shortly after he made his famous solo flight across the Atlantic in 1927. After they married, she became her husband's copilot.

Wheaties unveiled a special edition Black History Month package honoring the career and accomplishments of tennis pioneer Althea Gibson.
In 19950 Gibson became the first African-American to break tennis's color barrier and went on to win 5 grand slam titles including the 1957 and 58 Wimbledon and U.S. Open.

The Virginia Tech Hokies hit the jackpot yesterday as the top high school football players in the nation signed on the dotted line.
The Hokies signed 21 players including 13 high school all-Americans.

In that group is Parade All American Kevin Jones of Philadelphia. The 6-Foot 1 205 pound running back is ranked the Number one prospect in the nation by SuperPrep and a number of other recruiting services.
Quarterback Bryan Randall of Bruton High School in Williamsburg also committed to the Hokies yesterday. He's listed as the number 15 player by SuperPrep.
A little close to home, The Hokies signed Pulaski County Tight End and defensive lineman Jeff King.
The Tech recruiting class is listed as one of the tops in the country.

Liberty University signed 22 players in the first recruiting class for coach Ken Karcher. Unlike past years, the Flames made a big push to keep some local talent at home. They do just that in getting Liberty high school's Chase Andrews, Amherst County's Noah Crouch, E.C. Glass' John Davis, and Heritage's Markus Ferguson.
