The U-S-S Greenville collided with a Japanese commercial training vessel this afternoon nine miles off Honolulu Hawaii.

The Navy says the Greeneville was on routine operations when it surfaced and its stern-- that's the rear-end of the ship-- collided with the boat.
A spokeswoman says the boat sank, but the sub had no apparent damage.

Fire destroyed a home tonight in Rockbridge County and threatened a church nearby before firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control.

Located south of Lexington near Possum Hollow Road, the residence caught fire around six thirty tonight.

Firefighters say Linda Krantz was at home and heard popping noises before the building went up in flames. David Krantz saw the fire as he was returning home and stopped at a neighbor's to call 911.
The flames also ignited trees and brush.
Firefighters responded from departments throughout Rockbridge County, and they succeeded in keeping the fire from spreading to the Elliots Hill United Methodist Church.
No one was injured, but the house was a total loss.

Authorities seized a considerable amount of military clothing from Haynes' home at Fort Lee. Caldwell says some of it appears to have blood on it.
Police identified Haynes as a suspect with the help of a waitress at Hooters in Chesterfield County- - who said Haynes had come into the restaurant trying to arrange a photo shoot with her.

Their chartered plane crashed on Beaver Island last night.
The pilot of the plane and a crew member were killed.
