It would cost 10-and-a-half-million dollars MORE to build a proposed pipeline alongside an existing one.
That's according to Virginia Gas.
The company says it would fair better just building a new one.
Local residents have been waiting for justification -- because, they say, the environmental damages of the project would far outweigh the financial costs.
The State Corporation Commission got the 10-million dollar figure in support of a merger between Virginia Gas and New Jersey-based N-U-I.
If the merger DOES go through, the pipeline will most likely be built.
A hearing examiner from the S-C-C is due to make a recommendation on the merger within two weeks.
