Floyd County deputies say they were shot at when they responded to call on River Ridge Road last night.
When the gun fire stopped - deputies found two people dead.

It all began around 10 o'clock last night.
The Floyd County Sheriff's Office received a call about a domestic dispute that did not involve weapons, but when deputies arrived at the scene - it was a different story.

((When Floyd County deputies pulled up to the home of Kevin and Darlene Yoders - 28 year old Roger Lee Whitlock of Check was reportedly in the driveway with a 44 caliber magnum revolver. State police say the shoot out began when Whitlock fired 6 rounds at three deputies - and the deputies returned fire. Whitlock reportedly ran back inside the home -- where deputies found both Whitlock and 30 year old Darlene Yoders of Floyd dead. Darlene's husband Kevin and their two children who were inside the house were not hurt.
Dale Vest lives down the street and says Whitlock came around frequently and had chopped some wood for him recently.

Vest says the Yoders had just moved into the home last year. He described them as quiet, nice people.))

State Police have not said what LED up to the shooting - but did say it appears Whitlock died from the shots fired by deputies.
Officials have not said whether Whitlock fired the shot that killed Darlene.

A spokesperson for state police says there are still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding this shooting.

A two vehicle accident in Blacksburg proved fatal this morning for a Virginia Tech student.
Police say 19- year old Megan Christenson died when the pickup she was riding in collided with a Toyota Camry.
Authorities say the driver of the Toyota appears to have pulled from Old Glade Road into the path of the pick-up.
The truck was traveling on Prices Fork Road.
Police say at this time... no charges have been filed.
No one else was seriously injured.

Monday Earl Washington Junior was released from the Greensville Correctional Center...

D-N-A testing cleared Washington of the murder which almost led to his execution.

The Roanoke man was serving three life sentences plus 34 years... for the 1984 rape of a Nelson County woman.
She picked him out of a lineup - but only after hypnosis... It's evidence the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers says would NOT have been admissible if Honaker's defense knew about the hypnosis.
Honaker says prosecutors also dismissed the fact that he had had a vasectomy and could not produce sperm, which was found in the victim.

The college will gradually take over the 78- acre St. Albans Hospital property in Pulaski County.
The deal is the result of an agreement between the college and Carilion Health system.
School officials plan to convert the property into an economic development hub for southwest Virginia.

College of Information Science and Technology.

Tony Stewart was in the middle of an 18 car crash near the end of the Daytona 500. There were no serious injuries and Stewart was taken to a local hospital with a shoulder injury.
After a delay and when the dust settled Michael Waltrip takes the checkered flag winning the 500.

Bill Elliott led the first lap in his Dodge. But there were 4 different leaders early in the race and Dodge would lead 18 of the first 19 laps of the race.
Dale Earnhardt worked his way to the front and he passes Sterling Marlin for the lead with 174 laps to go, It was the sixth lead change.
Then the first caution of the day came out when Jeff Purvis hit the wall.
When the cars hit the halfway point Earnhardt and Stacy Compton led a group of cars that would pit under green flag racing.
Upon returning to the track Jeff Gordon came from the middle of the pack with under 100 laps left it was the 25-th lead change of the day.
The third caution of the day would come when Tony Stewart gets hit in traffic the car goes airborne and flips over several times. 18 cars including Stewart's teammate Bobby Labonte were involved in the crash that happened with under 30 laps to go. The race was red flagged while the cars and debris were cleared from the track.
After a red flag delay Michael Waltrip took off like a bullett he would hold off Dale Earnhardt junior taking the checkered flag for his first win in Winston Cup.
