One report finds consumer confidence at its lowest level in more than four years- Two other reports show drops in new home sales and orders for big ticket items also down.

Mr. President Im giving a speech tonight on the budget. The speech will be Mr. Bushs most important message since taking office - the biggest sell of his life. Highlights of the budget plan include: 4-point-6 billion dollars for education. Another 2 trillion dollars over 10 years will go to reduce the national debt. And with a 5-point-6 trillion dollar projected surplus - Mr. Bush will officially announce his controversial tax cut plan; 1-point-6 trillion dollars over a decade. Allan Lichtman - Presidential Expert He is absolutely going to have to sell his tax plan. He needs Democratic support in both Houses of Congress. Hes even got some shaky moderate Republicans. So far, Democrats arent doing anything to help the President's plan gain more support.
Senator Joe Lieberman - D Connecticut The American economy seems to have a slight head cold right now; if we take the medicine President Bush is offering, Im afraid we are going to have a bad case of pneumonia. A small gas main explosion in Danville sent two people to the hosptial- and kept rescue crews busy.

The accident happened just before three this afternoon- on Industrial Avenue at Pearl Street.
A private contractor was working on a gas main when it exploded- trapping one man underneath some dirt.
That man and one other person were taken to the hospital.
Neither had life threatening injuries.
No word on what caused the explosion.

Lynchburg's police chief is defending the department's K-9 unit- after another dog attack on a police officer.

Now a former police officer claims another, less-experienced handler was involved in the incident and the department covered it up.

The prosecutor sought the death penalty, so he summoned a former cell mate to testify against Burnette.

A police detective eventually came forward and discredited Killman, said she was the "biggest liar" he'd met in his entire career.
Though the victim's mother has forgiven those responsible for Robin's death, she's quick to recite the Killman's account of the killing.

In a recent study --researchers found that eating fish that's higher in fat at least once per week was associated with a 44 percent lower risk of dying from a heart attack in a group of older adults.
The reason: these fish contain Omega-3 fatty acids --which help reduce the triglyceride level in the body.

District Court Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson apparently made private comments to reporters- criticizing Microsoft... that while the anti trust case was still being heard.
The appeals court judges today said the judicial system would be a sham if judges felt free to publically denounce the parties involed.
Another appeals court judge referred to the judge's comments as absolutely improper.
Microsoft's attorney argues the judge should be disqualified and his ruling thrown out.

The Mormon Church has compiled hundreds of thousands of genealogical records from the post Civil War Freedman's Bank onto a C-D.
Church leaders say it enables millions of blacks to trace their ancestory in a matter of seconds.

((Basketball isn't the only activity that has been going on at the Salem Civic Center. There is big business taking place as well. Thousands of basketball fans have dipped into their wallets and purchased tickets to watch 92 quarters of hoops. ((John Saunders))
