Police in Williamsport say an eighth grade girl is in custody after allegedly shooting a female classmate.
The shooting happened during the lunch hour at The Biship Neumann Junior- Senior high school- The student's injuries are not life threatening.

And at a scare at a school in the California desert- two students are arrested and some weapons seized- That after a student at Twentynine Palms- reported hearing talk of shootings at school.
A San Bernadino County Sheriff's sergeant says deputies found a hit list of people along with weapons.

Attorneys for Jeffrey Alan Thomas began mounting his defense today.

His defense team began by attacking inconsistencies in prosecution witnesses' stories.
Earlier in the day, State Police Investigator T. S. (suh-VARD) Svard told jurors that Thomas denied killing Tara Munsey .. even before investigators told him she was dead.
Judge Colin Gibb dropped a rape charge against Thomas, saying there was only enough evidence to try Thomas for ATTEMPTED rape.
Thomas would still be eligible for the death penalty if he is convicted on the capital murder charge.

Pledge pled guilty last night to a federal racketeering charge. The 30-year old officer had told FEDERAL agents last June that he accepted money and drugs for not arresting them.

Lynchburg- area merchants are ready to give crooks who cash counterfeit checks a big "thumbs down".

With the help of SunTrust Bank, the police department has started a new program called "Positive Impressions" designed to combat bad check scams.
Participating stores will now ask for two forms of identification.. including a thumbprint on the check itself for anyone cashing a payroll check.
