The controversy over who will attend the new Roanoke County high school is now decided.

Superintendent Doctor Linda Weber recommended that when Hidden Valley High School opens in the fall of 2002, the rising juniors at Cave Spring High School who fall in the new school zone will attend the new school.
Tonight the school board agreed with Weber by a vote of 3 to 2, saying plans must move forward for the new school to be up and running.
Some parents say it should be the students choice whether they want to attend the new school.

The deadly school shooting near San Diego earlier this week has led to the expulsions of four students for the rest of the year.

Andy Williams, the alleged gunman, is said to have told the four classmates that he planned to open fire on the school.
The students were expelled for not reporting the threats. They say they thought Williams was only joking.
The school superintendent says that the expulsion is not a punishment, but rather an issue of safety.

Meanwhile in Williamsport, Pennsylvania - an eighth grader shot at her school yesterday is out of the hospital.
13-year-old Kimberly (Mar-KAY-zee) Marchese was alledgedly shot in the shoulder by a classmate.
Officials say 14-year-old Elizabeth Bush fired a 22-caliber revolver in a crowded cafeteria.
Officials say the two were involved in a long standing argument.
Bush is being held in a juvenile detention center while waiting for a psychological evaluation.

A boy suspected of making threats to shoot other students at a school in our area .. has been taken into custody.

A school resource officer at Read Mountain Middle School in Botetourt County overheard the 13 year old. The boy allegedly told another student .. he would shoot people who had been picking on him.
Authorities confronted the boys and called their parents.
No guns were found.

A car with two teenagers inside left Starlight Lane tonightin southwest Roanoke County.
The driver told police when he swerved to miss the deer, he lost control. The car hit an embankment and then rolled over.
The two boys were not wearing their seat belts, but no one was seriously injured.

The Reverend Jesse Jackson faces a different tax matter.
He says the "tax return" of one of his organizations is being corrected .. to reflect the money paid to a staffer who was his mistress.
The "Citizenship Education Fund" paid Karin Stanford 120-thousand dollars in 19-99. Her name was one of five staffers' left off the tax return.
Jackson calls the omissions "inadvertent."

(( Here's one side to the numbers ...Virginia's population has grown by about a million people over the last 10 years.
Here's another side ... not enough to get another seat in Congress.

Danville took a huge hit... an 8 point 8 percent population drop. [ADD]
Roanoke lost one and a half percent of its population. [ADD]
Lynchburg's numbers fell one point two percent. [ADD]
But the town of Blacksburg jumped up in the numbers by 14 percent. [END PRE PRO]
And the reason for Blacksburg's success?
It could be the popularity at Virginia Tech.
Tech's 25 thousand plus students make up about 65 percent of Blacksburg's population.
Taking another quick look at the numbers, you'll notice that biggest losses in population occurred in cities, but not one COUNTY in Virginia shrank in the last 10 years. He filed a lawsuit in Montgomery County circuit court today against the state and four university officials.

Knight has met with Texas Tech officials but sources say he has some reservations because of the remoteness of the school in Lubbock, Texas.
