A well-known radio personality in Bedford County must serve seven months in jail .. for taking indecent liberties with a child.

James Patterson, was convicted last year for offenses involving young boys... some of the cases dating back 20 years.
Patterson was sentenced to a total of 30 years, with all-but seven months suspended. He'll be on probation for ten years.
The prosecutor says he and the victims were pleased with the sentence.

30 year old Antonio Garland was arrested Saturday morning in Richmond.

But today, the Wall Street Journal revealed that Cinergy Corporation is headed for a takeover.
The company is reportedly 2.9 billion dollars in debt.
The company wouldn't say what a possible merger would mean for the Martinsville plant, and said only that they refused to comment on "market rumors."
Martinsville's city manager Earl Reynolds was on the phone as late as yesterday confirming the plant's construction.
He says the potential merger won't stop this million dollar tax base from being built.

Schools across the country are beefing up security after the recent school shooting in California .. and copycat incidents in other states.

At Hidden Valley Junior High School in Roanoke County, parents are the ones keeping an eye on the students.
The School Watch program is intended to help make the school safe, and it's making the students feel secure.
Tonight on News 7 at 11 we'll walk the halls with some parents to see what it's like being a "parent on patrol".
