That is one of the questions for the jury as they contemplate whether to send Combs to jail or set him free. Johnnie Cochran, Defense Attorney. "Basically 40 seconds somewhat changed his life that particular night and I think when you look back on that hindsight is 20/20 but I think we all learned from this." The case went to the jury following six weeks of testimony and two hours of legal instructions from the judge. Combs was charged with weapons possession and bribery in 1999. He was arrested arrested while fleeing a New York nightclub with ex-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez. Gunfire had erupted after an argument involving the rap star's entourage. Defense attorney Ben Brafman remains skeptical of the prosecutions' case.
Benjamin Brafman, Defense Attorney. "This is the first gun possession case in the history of America that lasted 6 or 7 weeks and had 60 witnesses. "
Combs' protege and co-defendant, Jamaal ``Shyne'' Barrow, is charged with shooting three people in the club. He faces attempted murder charges. As might be expected, the trial was not without controversy. In closing arguments yesterday, Prosecutor Matthew Bogdanos told the jurors he didn't call Lopez as a witness because he feared the singer-actress would shade her testimony in Combs' favor. Bogdanos also said Combs' friends and employees called as witnesses had offered nothing but ``lies.'' Now it's up to the jury decide who was lying and who deserves to be punished.))
