A Roanoke man who served in France during the D-Day invasion is now one of the biggest contributors to the D-Day Memorial under construction in Bedford.

Melvin "Bub" Proffitt was honored today for his one million dollar donation to the Memorial and its education center.
Proffitt served in the 116th Infantry Band, and set foot on the Normandy beaches nine days after the initial invasion.
He says it means a lot to him to be able to honor his comrades.

NTSB Investigators have their work cut out for them as they comb through the twisted wreckage of Amtraks California Zepher.
Theyre also inspecting more than a half- mile of shredded track, rails and ties. They want to know what caused the 11 cars and two locomotives to derail late Saturday night in Western Iowa.

The conductor says he was traveling at 52 miles an hour-nearly 30 miles an hour below the posted speed. He says he felt a tugpassengers say it was frightening.

The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad owns and maintains the track-investigators are checking their records.

Doctor William Isenhour at Montgomery OBGYN in Blacksburg says PMDD is a more severe form of P-M-S --and the symptoms are more psychological than physical.
Some of the symptoms of P-M-D-D include: sudden mood changes, tension, sadness, feeling overwhelmed, bloating, breast tenderness, food cravings, sleep changes, and relationship problems.

But what causes this to occur in women. Isenhour says doctors discovered that weeks before a womens menstrual cycle there was a decrease in chemical released by the brain known as serotonin.
Medication help keep the serotonin level balanced. So far, Sarafem is the only one that's FDA approved.
But there can be side effects.

It appears Mir will be alive a little longer. Russian officials say the date of Mir's fiery demise has been pushed back a day to Friday.

Officials say that's because the orbiting complex has been sinking a little slower than expected.
On Friday, Mir will plummet through the atmosphere at 17-thousand miles an hour- burning and breaking up as it goes.
But many nations, particularly Japan.. remain concernced that large chunks of the station will survive and possibly fall on populated areas.
If successful, about 25-tons of debris will survive re-entry and plunge into the South Pacific, far from land.

Turner Broadcasting has confirmed that WCW Nitro and WCW Thunder have been canceled and will no longer appear on WTBS or TNT after next Monday night. Published reports indicate that the WCW, or World Championship Wrestling lost $80 million dollars last season.

Both mother and child are doing well.
