George Lincoln Hopkins was arrested and charged with first degree murder for allegedly killing Larry Thomas Bennett.

Deputies say the two men had been drinking when an argument broke out around two-thirty this morning.
The victim's 13 year old child escaped through a window and called police.
Authorities believe Hopkins killed Bennett with glass from a coffee table broken during the altercation.

26-year old Jeremy Ryan Cox is accused of taking indecent liberties with a tenth grade girl who was a member of an athletic team he coached.
Authorities say the allegations came to light when the student told personnel at Floyd County High School.
Cox faces seven counts, the most serious- abduction with intent to defile- carries a possible prison sentence of 20 years to life.

The mall was closed to shoppers as more than 100 officers and a police dog searched four stories.
The F-B-I says one of the mall's video cameras spotted the man inside a mall entrance- that's what prompted the search.
The fugitive who's wanted on firearms and other charges- was not found. The mall has since reopened.

A monitoring device on the bumper of a vehicle could help in a moonshining case.
It was state Alcoholic Beverage Control Agents who put the device on a vehicle from the Farmers Exchange in Rocky Mount, hoping it would lead them to an illegal moonshine still.
Agents lost track of the signal ...on Tharp Creek Road, but it helped narrow down the vicinity.
Eventually A-B-C Agents found the still, and today the judge in the federal moonshine case ruled the government CAN use that evidence.

27-year-old Michael Farner was arrested last May after an undercover investigation involving an A-B-C agent.
Farner had tried to hire the agent to kill Lisa Miller, because he claimed she knew too much about crimes he'd allegedly been involved in.
