Good news if you're planning on buying a home or car anytime soon-

((NEWS OF A HALF-PERCENTAGE POINT FEDERAL RESERVE RATE CUT HIT BIG
ON THE TRADING FLOOR OF THIS VIRGINIA BROKERAGE HOUSE.
FINANCIAL EXPERTS AGREED A RATE CUT WAS NEEDED TO STIMULATE THE
ECONOMY, AND THE FED SIGNALED IT WOULD MOVE EVEN FURTHER IF NEEDED.
Steve East: 50-basis points or half-a-point is all that
is really justified, right at this moment.
AFTER LAST WEEKS HUGE SELL-OFF, INVESTORS HAD HOPED THE FED
WOULD BE EVEN MORE AGGRESSIVE WITH ITS CUTS, BUT MANY ANALYSTS BELIEVED
THAT MIGHT SEEM LIKE PANDERING TO WALL STREET.
Steve East/Market Economist: Investors will feel its safe to invest in almost
anything because you can only get hurt so bad because the fed will
eventually bail you out with a rate cut.
Teri Okita/Reporting: THE FED HAS CUT RATES THREE TIMES THIS YEAR.
ECONOMISTS FEEL ITS NEEDED NOW GIVEN CONSUMERS CAUTIOUS MOOD, THE
WEAK STATE OF MANUFACTURING, AND THE SKITTISHNESS ON WALL STREET. (:10)
FOR THE HOUSING MARKET, THE ONE SECTOR THAT HAS REMAINED
RELATIVELY STEADY THROUGH ALL THIS UNCERTAINTY, A RATE CUT IS STILL
WELCOME.
Sue Huckaby/Weichert Realtors:
The lower interest rates are going to keep us from
having any big downfall, like the Nasdaq has had.
MORTGAGE RATES MAY DROP SLIGHTLY, AS SHOULD CREDIT CARD RATES.
COMMERCIAL BANKS ARE EXPECTED TO MIRROR THE FED AND CUT THEIR PRIME
LENDING RATE BY A SIMILAR HALF-POINT. TERI OKITA, CBS NEWS, WASHINGTON.))
