Approximately 45- hundred full and part time union workers will vote on the contract.
Most are employed at some 40 Kroger stores in central and southwest Virginia.

A union spokesman declined to reveal details about the contract but says workers will vote on it tomorrow after attending a morning meeting at the Salem Civic Center. During the meeting-- workers will be able to read the contract and ask union leaders questions. The workers current 5- year contract expired on Saturday but was extended through tomorrow. ))

Governor Jim Gilmore has a last minute fix to provide pay raises for state workers, teachers, and professors.

With a bill-signing deadline of midnight tonight, the Governor's move came as a surprise.
He will reduce the amount the state and localities contribute to the Virginia Retirement System -- and use the savings for three and a half percent pay raises later this year.

He's accused of murdering two classmates and wounding 13 others at Santana High school.
Williams arraignment though was postponed- That's so his lawyers can prepare to challenge the state law requiring he be tried as an adult.
Meanwhile 18-year old Jason Hoffman pleaded innocent toay - He's s accused of wounding five people in a shooting last week at Granite High School.
Today students returned to class for the first time since the shooting.

Police have charged two brothers from southwest Roanoke with firing a gun in the school parking lot.
Their brother is charged with causing a disruption, and so is a boy from northwest Roanoke.

Officials say the boy had the gun so he could fire it during New Year's festivities.

Blacksburg police arrested Dennis Mims last Friday at Terrace View Apartments-

This morning, Red Sox star Nomar Garciaparra was in Charlottesville to have his injured right wrist examined by University of Virginia team doctor Frank McCue. Doctor McCue says he thinks Garciaparra needs surgery to repair the tendon that is split from Nomar's fingers to his wrist. The procedure will keep him out for 10 weeks. He likely will have the surgery next week.

Roanoke County will play host to the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union collegiate tournament this weekend at Green Hill Park in the western part of the county.

Yesterday morning, officials from both Mid Atlantic Rugby and Roanoke County Parks, recreation and tourism held a news conference to announce the final brackets.
