IF SPRING TIME PUTS YOU IN A GOOD MOOD, YOU MIGHT BE TEMPTED TO BLAME IT ON SUNSHINE AND WARM TEMPERATURES. BUT THERE IS A TRUE BIOLOGICAL REASON FOR THAT IMPROVED ATTITUDE: CHANGES IN BRAIN CHEMISTRY - AND THOSE CHANGES TAKE PLACE BECAUSE OF LONGER DAYS AND MORE SUNSHINE. AND THESE BRAIN CHEMICALS NOT ONLY GIVE US A MENTAL " PICK ME UP"- BUT CAUSE US TO BECOME PHYSICALLY HEALTHIER AS WELL.
GRFX FOR EXAMPLE: LOWER CHOLESTEROL. CHOLESTEROL LEVELS IN THE BODY ARE ALMOST ALWAYS LOWER IN THE SPRING THAN THEY ARE IN THE WINTER- UP TO 10-20 POINTS- EVEN WHEN YOU HAVEN'T CHANGED YOUR DIET OR EXERCISE HABITS.
GRFX YOUR BONES GET THICKER- AND YOU GET THINNER. IN FACT- THERE IS A BIG SHIFT IN BODY COMPOSITION COME SPRING- YOU LOSE A LITTLE BODY FAT, GAIN A LITTLE MUSCLE AND THICKEN UP YOUR BONES. THAT MAY HELP EXPLAIN WHY FEWER HIP FRACTURES IN THE SPRING THAN WINTER.
GRFX NEXT- YOU NEED LESS SLEEP-THIS IS REALLY A GOOD DEAL- NOT ONLY DO YOU NEED LESS SLEEP- UP TO 1/2 HOUR LESS... BUT YOU HAVE MORE ENERGY DESPITE LESS SLEEP.
GRFX AND FINALLY CHANGES IN EATING HABITS. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ICE CREAM- MOST PEOPLE FIND THEY CRAVE FEWER CARBOHYDRATES AND FATS IN SPRING THAN IN WINETR- THIS ALONG WITH A NATURAL SPEED UP IN METABOLISM MAKES LOSING WEIGHT A LITTLE EASIER THIS TIME OF YEAR.
