((Police are now learning more about former fugitive James Kopp. Kopp was arrested in France Thursday -- after being on the run for more than 2 years for allegedly shooting to death abortion doctor Barnett Slepian in Buffalo in 1998.
Authorities say Kopp had 3 passports on him when he was arrested, one American and two Irish. Officials also say Kopp had lived in Ireland for a year before eventually moving to France -- and that he had help trying to evade authorities. Stan Borgia/FBI Asst.Special Agent. "His lifestyle on the run was like any other fugitive. He used a series of evasive techniques that included changing his name, getting false ID, continuing to be on the move." Kopp was arrested at a post office where he was picking up a package of cash allegedy sent by sympathizers in the United States. On the same day, abortion activists Dennis Malvasi and Loretta Marra were arrested in Brooklyn, New York and ordered held without bail on charges of conspiring to harbor a felon. Louis Freeh/FBI Director:

"The investigation determined he was about to leave France, he was waiting for additional funds."
Dr. Slepian was killed in his Amherst, NY home by a single bullet fired from a sniper's rifle. Kopp was linked to a rifle found buried near Slepian's house and a strand of his hair, matched by DNA, was found near the spot where the gun was fired. Kopp faces state and federal charges of murder and violating the federal Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. Both charges carry up to life in prison. The federal charge can bring the death penalty which could delay his extradition from France. They abolished capital punishment in 1981 and since then have refused to extradite suspects who are facing the death penalty. GC CBS News, New York.))
