A Christiansburg man has agreed to plead guilty to embezzling more than 600-thousand dollars from various charitable organizations.
Harold Richard Poff will have to pay back at least 422-thousand dollars he allegedly pilfered as General Manager of an investment firm called N-R-C Management Services.

A long- time sheriff of Montgomery County has died.

Louie Barber served 14-years as sheriff.
As a Police officer for the town of Christiansburg, he was one of five law enforcement officers struck by gunfire in a shooting spree in 1975. One of the gunmen, Greg Lugar, was among four people killed in the shoot-out.
As Sheriff Barber helped Texas authorities investigate the claims of a serial killer who claimed he had killed a Blacksburg school teacher.

Amherst County authorities have arrested two teenagers for making a bomb threat at Amherst High School.
