A pedestrian was struck and killed on Interstate-81 today. The 40 year old played football for Virginia Tech- from 1979 to 1982.
(Gill-ette) Gillet Garner Ford, Junior of Blacksburg was hit by a truck traveling south.

State Police say Ford stepped out of his pickup after it broke down. When he leaned back, he fell into traffic.
The truck driver who hit him tried to stop. There are no charges against him.
Southbound lanes were closed due to the accident and as traffic backed up, a second crash occurred a few miles back.

A U-P-S truck could not stop in time and hit the car ahead of it.

A Virginia man is acquitted of assaulting an airline ticket agent-
The verdict came down today after three and half hours of deliberations- John Davis Not guilty of aggravated assault.

He was accused after a confrontation with an airline worker- as a delayed flight was boarding.
The Airline workers neck was broken during the incident. Prosecution witnesses said David slammed the ticket agent headfirst onto the floor after enduring a two hour delay at Newark International airport.
The defense said that the agent attacked first- and both men fell to the floor.

The agency says huge projected losses may make it cut back to a Monday through Friday schedule.
Postal officials say they face a two to three BILLION dollar loss this year.
That's after a 200 MILLION dollar loss this year.
In addition to ending Saturday delivery, the postal service is considering closing some post offices.

A circus protest brought a circus atmosphere to downtown Roanoke this afternoon, as animal rights activists and a Roanoke radio station vied for the public's attention.

Shortly after noon Tarina (tuh-REE-nuh) Keene took off her bathrobe and climbed into a makeshift cage near the City Market Building.
She was protesting the use of animals in the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Representatives of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals contend that circus living conditions and training methods amount to animal cruelty.

It's the first of its kind in the Roanoke Valley, a facility that specializes only in eye surgery.
It's called the Roanoke Valley Center for Sight.
