Pentagon officials say arrangements are in place for a commercial American airliner to pick up the Americans.
Word of their pending release came after a carefully-worded letter from the U-S was delivered to the Chinese.

Shawn Conace Vaughn surrendered himself to the Roanoke Police Department after he heard local media reports that there were warrants out for his arrest.

Vaughn and another man allegedly shot and robbed a cab driver early Sunday morning.
Vaughn's accomplice was arrested Monday.
The cab driver is in fair condition at Duke University Medical Center.

Roanoke has a new assistant city manger.
Rolanda Johnson comes from Decatur, Illinois with 12 years of administrative experience.
She'll begin working in Roanoke on May second.
City Manager Darlene Burcham says Decatur's loss is Roanoke's gain.
Burcham also says Johnson's exact role in city administration has not yet been determined.

Some members of the Montgomery County school board are worried its a negative stereotype and want to retire the Indian.

Earl Brown was one of many former and current Blacksburg High school students to voice their opinion.
The school board is considering eliminating the Indian name and mascot as part of a county wide policy.
But those who want to keep what they see as a source of pride reminded the board that a task force organized to study the issue voted to keep both the name and Indian symbol.

An ex- postal worker is dead after he went on a stabbing rampage at a postal facility in New Jersey.

Police shot and killed the man after he refused to drop his weapons, which included a handgun and two knives.
Authorities say the man walked into the lobby of the bulk transfer facility and stabbed four of his former co-workers.

Authorities say the man was a former temporary employee who resigned in March after a personnel dispute.
