The Bedford County Supervisors approved the pay raise tonight by a vote of 4 to 3.
The good news for tax payers is their real estate tax will go up by just 3 cents instead of the proposed 8 cents.

It took several different motions from the Board of Supervisors before they settled on approving the 4 point 3 million dollars the school board asked for to increase teacher salaries.
Many teachers say this is just one step in making the county more competitive with other school districts.

And shortly after their Air Force jet landed in Honolulu, it was obvious the 24 servicemen and women were happy-- even overjoyed-- to be home.
Shane Osborn:
"The first thing is were definitely glad to be back, and second, we want to assure the families and loved ones of these fine crew members they're all healthy, miss them very much (chokes up) and ready to get
home."
Shane Osborn was the pilot of the ill-fated spy plane flight. He's being called a hero for safely landing the crippled plane.
On the flight to Guam, he talked about the accident, and it was apparently worse than anybody thought.
With two engines out, the plane went into an almost inverted 8-thousand foot dive.

"During that period of time they thought about jumping off the airplane, preparing for evacuating the airplane, then they came, got the airplane under control and thought about ditching."
Osborn literally muscled the plane to a safe landing.
At the White House, President Bush welcomed the crew home.
Crew in Pearl Harbor for checkups and debriefings, will fly to Washington for a huge welcome home with family members-- and hopefully be at their individual homes by Easter Sunday.

That's where they say 51- year- old James Murrell had stabbed his former girlfriend, 45- year- old Ella Ma Brown.. in the face and neck eight times.

Police aren't sure how, but Murrell also suffered a stab wound to his throat.. he's hospitalized in serious condition.

Investigators say the driver of the black pickup truck veered off route 24 near Rustburg, in Campbell County this afternoon. The pickup struck a fence and a telephone pole, killing the driver on impact.

The Bruins confirmed today that the team will not pick up the two year option on Keenan's contract.
Newspaper reports say that assistant coach Peter Laviolette will be elevated to head coach.
The 51 year old Keenan coaches by intimidation and that reportedly didn't go over well with the players. His case was further hurt when the Bruins failed to make the playoffs.
Keenan took over the job when Pat Burns was fired by Boston 8 games into the N-H-L season.
