Under the proposal, the school system would get nearly two million dollars less than it wanted.

Board members say that's the only way to continue teacher pay raises and pay off the new Greenfield elementary School.

Johnson and Johnson has agreed to settle complaints over its disposable contact lenses.
A 1996 lawsuit in New Jersey claimed the company's Acuvue and One-Day Acuvue lenses are really the same product, even though One-Day costs MUCH less.
The suit charged that the company told customers to throw out the disposables after one day -- when they could have been worn for up to two weeks.
Johnson-and-Johnson plans to pay up to 860 MILLION dollars to settle the suit.

North Carolina police are investigating a car crash that killed a Pittsylvania County man.
The crash happened in Eden .. where police say a car driven by 50 year old Mark J. Hampton and a private ambulance from Henry County collided.
Hampton was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have identified the victims as Robert and Donna Burgess.
The couple was found with gunshot wounds to the head at a home on North 30th Street yesterday evening.
One of their sons was there and called 9-1-1.
Police are waiting for autopsy results before confirming their theory that 64-year-old Robert killed his 47-year-old wife before turning the gun on himself.

His agent and San Diego are no longer at the bargaining table.
Vick's agent is reportedly asking for a deal between 50 and 60 million dollars and a 15 million dollar signing bonus.

Virginia hammered the Hokies yesterday afternoon at English Field in Blacksburg.

The Hokies opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Chad English hits a grounder into left field scoring Addison Bowman and Tech took the early lead 1 to nothing.
But the Cavaliers rallied in the top of the fourth with three straight homers. This solo homer off the bat of Jon Benick just clears the left field fence to tie the score at 1 to 1.
Then the very next batter Mark Ruefferet takes this Ian Ostlund fast ball deep over the centerfield wall and the Cavaliers took the 2 to 1 lead still in the fourth.

The Cavaliers would add to that lead when Dan Sheet sends this pitch over the left centerfield wall and Virginia goes on to win the game 9 to 3.

Residents say the deer crashed through a number of windows and caused extensive damage while inside the units.
Witnesses say the deer continued to run out of control until it finally took off.
