44-year old Karen Williams East was found dead in her home Saturday morning..

she'd suffered several stab wounds to the chest.
East was a secretary for the Lynchburg Hillcats baseball club the last seven years.
Co-workers and family members gathered for a vigil outside her home yesterday.

Joanne and Travis Akers say they smelled smoke shortly after starting their gas grill on the back porch.
The couple quickly left and called firefighters from a relative's home next door.
The Pulaski Fire Department responded to the home on "Fink Farm Road"
No one was injured but the house had some 40-thousand dollars in damage.

Four Danville sheriff's deputies may be spending time behind bars. They were indicted yesterday on charges of having sex with female inmates at the city jail.
A grand jury handed down felony charges against Doyle Matthew Cook, Junior, Ernest Vernon Carter, the third, Marvin Everettt Riggins, and Steven Martin Terry.
State police investigators say the alleged misconduct took place between July and August of last year.

Police say a Roanoke businessman paid 500-dollars in a scheme to have his wife killed.

48-year-old David John Neuhs (NEWS) was arraigned on charges of conspiracy to commit capital murder yesterday morning.
State police say he gave a man a pistol and instructed him to kill his wife, Teresa Ann Neuhs, who lives in Franklin County.
Police say Neuhs paid the man 500-dollars after he'd been TOLD she was dead. She was NOT harmed.
Neuhs is the owner of D-and-T Trucking.
Police say he and his wife were separated and going through a divorce and property dispute.

Graduation will go on as scheduled June ninth.

Virginia Tech has announced it's new chief academic officer.
Mark McNamee was named University Provost yesterday after beating out two other finalists for the job.
In August he will be responsible for all undergraduate, graduate, off-campus and research programs at the school.
McNamee has spent the last 25-years at the University of California Davis as a dean, department head and professor.

Soon afterwards the school started receiving offers of contributions to help.
The result is The Rotunda Fund.

Be sure to specify the money is for the Rotunda Fund.
Officials at the college say the rotunda will be rebuilt.
