A grand jury will hear the case of two men suspected of attacking their taxi driver.

Phillip Alex Foreman and his alleged accomplice, Shawn Conace Vaughn, were in court for a preliminary hearing in the case this morning. The two men are accused of shooting cab driver John Powers in the back and stealing his money April first. In part of his testimony Powers told the court how the injury changed his life.

The judge certified the case to trial. In the meantime, Foreman agreed to be extradicted to Georgia. Police there say he is suspected of killing a young man by shooting him in the back.

An early morning shooting in Bedford County left one man hospitalized in stable condition.
Deputies say 32- year- old Greg Lamont Langhorne was shot in the shoulder when three men wearing ski masks broke into his mobile home around 2:15.
Three others in the home also were robbed at gunpoint.

In Bedford City, police arrested more than a dozen suspected cocaine dealers early today. They have warrants for a total of 27 suspects.

Danville's G-W school magazine is finally going to print.

A controversy arose about a month ago when the ChatterBox set out to publish articles dealing with sexually- transmitted diseases and inter- racial dating.
Liability concerns led the school board to asked that real names not be used.
The articles will be printed with a letter from the school board explaining its decision.
In turn, student editors plan to print their own disclaimer, saying they disagree with any attempt to censor the Chatterbox.

Roanoke officials want to bring pro basketball and more concerts to town.

This wouldn't be the N-B-A, which has played a couple of exhibition games in Roanoke, but its new minor league, the N-B-D-L.
The deal would bring 26 ball games and 28 entertainment events to the civic center.

It's the oldest and largest fishing tournament on Smith Mountain Lake.
And the Cave Spring Optmist Club has sponsored the event from the beginning.

((Smith Mountain Lake was 2 years old when the Cave Spring Optimist club held the first tournament.
That was 33 years ago.)) ((IKE HARRIS/TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR:)) ((The first lines were cast in the lake at 7:30. 625 Fisherman competing for over 13-thousand dollars in prize money.


The club expects to make around 10-thousand dollars and that money will go toward projects in the Roanoke Valley.)) ((HARRIS:)) ((The fishermen began rolling into Foxport Marina at around 10-thirty.
Their catches were weighed and measured and if they fit the qualifications they were posted on the board.
Crappie was the popular catch of the day but not all of them were big enough to challenge for the prize money.))

The Big South softball tournament has taken over the Moyer Sports complex this weekend.

Six teams are competing in the double elimination tournament. Radford, the three seed, is taking on Elon and fourth seeded Liberty is battling Winthrop right now. At seven, top seed Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern play the winners of those games. Action resumes tomorrow at one PM and the championship is Sunday, also at one, more on the Big South at 11.

There was a crowd gathered at the basketball court at Lakewood Park today. It was to honor pastor Larry Eenigenburg (een-IGen-burg) who died while playing hoops two years ago.
