A three hour plunge to earth ... and safe landing was the final thrill for Dennis Tito.
Tito CLIP: It was paradise! I just came back from paradise. Great flight, great landing, soft landing.
Seven days of weighlessness had left the 60 year old Tito a bit wobbly - but Russian doctors quickly judged him fit and in good health.
Right from the start, Tito was delighted to be aboard the International Space Station as the first space tourist....
....even though NASA had tried to prevent this trip - and is now threatening to send him a bill for the trouble they say he's caused.
Early yesterday morning, Tito said goodbye to the Space station's crew....
and with two Russian cosmonauts, floated down the hatch to their Soyuz capsule for the return journey.
Back on earth - Tito received a hero's welcome....
Although this celebration is as much about the 20 million dollars he paid the Russians for his ticket.
NASA - which didn't support the trip - won't get any of that money - but Tito says their attitude is bound to change.
CLIP: They don't realize it yet - but this is the best thing that ever happened to NASA.
With Tito safely back - NASA and the Russians have got some negotiating to do over the financing and control of space toursim... and the pressure is on. Already, the Russians say, dozens of wealthy would be tourists are lining up to go into orbit.
