the recommendation by V-Dot would put more than 4-hundred-fifty homes in the path of Interstate 73. But officials say that's less of an impact than other routes would have on Southwest Virginia.

V-Dot officials say they have made every effort to avoid disruption to homes and businesses in their recommendation.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board board meets next Thursday in Richmond, where it may or may not vote on the recommendation. In any case the road has years of surveys, environmental impact studies, and public hearings before construction could start.

Three snow leopard cubs were introduced to the real world when they were removed from their den and separated from their mother for a quick medical check-up. The doctor determined the siblings consist of two females and a male. They weigh about a pound.
Each cub was implanted with a microchip to help the zoo tell them apart. They'll be named later after they start to exhibit distinct personalities. They make up the first surviving litter of snow leopard cubs born the zoo.

300 landowners have signed a petition saying Duke Energy will have to condemn their land to get their property.

A Botetourt County man will serve 20 years in prison for killing his brother in a fit of rage.

52-year-old Barry Etzler (ETTS-ler) said he regretted the shooting last September that killed his brother, Hugh, and injured his nephew, Brad.
He said he snapped after the two failed to come home with the iced tea he'd given them money to buy.
He was convicted of first degree murder in February.
Etzler's nephew and family urged the judge to impose a lenient sentence, saying they forgave him and needed him to care for his ailing mother.
