Limiting prescription drug abuse is the focus of a national task force headed up by Attorney General Mark Earley. The first meeting will be held in Washington today. Earley's primary focus is on the painkiller OxyContin. On Thursday, a state-level task force focused mainly on the OxyContin problem is scheduled to meet for the first time in Abingdon. Medical officials in southwest Virginia say OxyContin has been linked to at least 39 overdose deaths in the past three years.

Mother's Day is a day for children to honor those who gave them life and love - but it's a little different for mothers who have suffered the loss of a child. That's why a small group in Roanoke came together for the second annual Million Mom March. Kate Weidaw has more.

It's stories like Thomas' that started the Million Mom March. Last year thousands of women marched on the Mall in Washington D.C. calling on lawmakers to pass more sensible gun laws and require all guns to be equipped with safety locks.
This year the cause is the same, but the numbers are smaller.

A weekend accident in Bedford county leaves a man in critical condition.

State police say 59- year old George Weston Files was travelling down Route 2-21 Saturday night when he crossed out of his lane and struck a van head on. Six people were taken to the hospital-- five of whom were released with minor injuries. Files was taken to Roanoke Memorial where he remains in Intensive Care. State police say Files could be charged at a later date.
