An accident in Roanoke tonight leaves a teenager in critical condition.

Police say the 16- year old was attempting to turn onto Peters Creek Road when he pulled into the path of a Ford Explorer. The S-U-V struck the teen on the driver's side. Authorities say the teenager had to be cut from his car and is now in critical condition. The driver of the Explorer is in his 30's and was also taken to the hospital. Police say part of the southbound lane of Peters Creek Road will be closed until about eleven thirty.

State Police believe the rig was rounding a curve when the truck tipped over.

Nationwide Insurance is bringing a customer claims center to Lynchburg and a hundred new jobs with it.
The office building is scheduled to be complete in September.
The insurer already employs almost 350 people at another facility in Lynchburg.

A Covington man is learning a costly lesson. But in the process Lonnie Morgan wants to help others from falling into the same predicament. Morgan pays his state taxes once a year but he draws disability and the state says he should be making estimated quarterly payments. All of this came to light when Morgan received a bill from the state informing him he'd underpaid his income tax for 1999 by ONE dollar.

Morgan says he was eventually able to prove he did NOT owe the dollar but he has not been able to wipe out another part of the bill. C-S-X investigators say an engineer accidentally hit the throttle instead of the brake.
Investigators say the veteran engineer set two of the three brakes on the train - but instead of setting the third brake - he mistakenly hit the throttle.
The engineer then jumped off the train to manually switch tracks.
That's when he realized the train was moving too fast for him to get back on.

The mother bear ran into the side of a car while crossing the road.

Meanwhile the two cubs took to the trees and climbed some 70 feet.
A tranquilizer gun missed, so the Game commission called its expert climber out of retirement.
20 minutes later, one bear was in custody, while the other dropped into a tarp and was captured on the ground.
They were reunited with mom, who by the way suffered a broken nose and dislocated wrist.

Chip Sullivan is back. Yesterday in Gaithersburg, Maryland, in open qualifying for next week's Kemper Open, Chip shot a five under par round to beat out 49 other golfers for one of only two at large spots for the event. The Kemper Open begins next Thursday at the TPC at Avenel Course in Potomac, Maryland. Sullivan, who is the club pro at Ashley Plantation in Botetourt County, last played on the tour in 1999 when he took part in 3 events - the Greensboro Classic, the MCI Heritage Classic and the Compaq Classic.

The NCAA raised more than a few eyebrows earlier this spring when it lifted the ban that prohibited college teams from playing football on Friday nights.
