Plans to honor war veterans from Halifax County have hit another setback.

The Halifax Women's Club has donated the land to the county for the project.

The Halifax County Board of Supervisors plans to hold a public hearing on the issue June 4th.
County officials hope to begin construction on the memorial sometime this summer and have the project completed by May of next year.
That's when Halifax County celebrates its 250th anniversary.

In a faxed statement, Intermet says no final decision has been made about production changes or which jobs will be affected.

Police have obtained warrants charging 18- year- old Jonathan Martin Smith with murder.

James Aaron Crick led police from Lexington to near Arcadia yesterday morning after allegedly leaving a gas station without paying for his fuel. Authorities say the 20-year old was also wanted on grand larceny and unauthorized use of a vehicle charges. When police hemmed in his car, Crick took off on foot. He jumped off an overpass and ran down the highway before darting into traffic where he was hit and killed by a truck.

Today the college announced plans to start a baseball team known as the "DCC Knights."
The team will play other two-and four-year colleges beginning next spring.
Some 20-25 students will be recruited and college officials hope to find a lot of the players in their own backyard.

She was born last week, and weighs about 2-hundred-fifty pounds now.
