The community is paying tribute to five military airmen who died in a crash on Sharp Top Mountain 58 years ago. The men were on a nighttime training mission from South Carolina when their B-25 Bomber crashed in Bedford County. About two years ago, a group of Bedford residents began gathering information and money for a two-and-a-half foot bronze monument.
It will be placed at the remote crash site today. A similar monument will be erected somewhere in Bedford where everyone can see it without making the hike to the crash site.

Some Virginia colleges and universities are feeling the effects of the Wall Street roller coaster ride.\
For the first time in nearly a decade, many schools are reporting sharp declines. But most schools say they have diversified their portfolios and can ride-out short-term dips in the market.
Virginia Tech saw its 368 MILLION dollar portfolio shrink by almost 30 MILLION dollars before the stock market rebounded. Tech's loss is still close to 20 MILLION.
