The parent companies of Roanoke Gas and Virginia Gas said today that the estimated construction costs of the line from Saltville to Roanoke are just too high.

Virginia Gas is going to connect into a line owned by East Tennessee Natural Gas company, and boost the supply of natural gas to Roanoke that way.
Officials say that should be enough extra capacity to meet natural gas demands in the Roanoke Valley for three to four years.
But it also means Roanoke Gas will not be able to extend service to Franklin County and Rocky Mount.
We'll have reaction from pipeline opponents tonight on News-7 at 5 and 6.
