Hackworth says Norfolk Southern agreed
to release the city from a deed
obligation requiring it to leave the
Stadium on the property.

That gives Roanoke the go- ahead
for demolition.

The only remaining stipulations
are that the land must continue to
house the National Guard Armory, and be
considered city parks and recreation
property.

The news has led a pro-Victory
Stadium citizen group to drop its
lawsuit aimed at halting demolition.

Reports from the city managers
office indicate demolition could begin
within the week.
