Organizers have an elaborate plan to get an estimated 15 to 20 thousand people off the roads, to the designated parking lots then to the memorial.

Strong thunderstorms plagueing our area right now, especially in Bedford County where our pre-D-day coverage has concluded due to lightning and reports from Robin Reed of three-quarter inch hail. We currently have thunderstorms warnings in effect for the counties of Bedford, Amherst and Greenbrier. Thunderstorm watches for nearly all central Virginia. The radar map showing heavy storms in Lynchburg, Apomattox and Bedford right now. Another strong system to the south over Franklin, Henry and Patrick Counties. This system is riding the Blue Ridge Mountains and wet weather is expected to continue through tomorrow. If you're heading out to Bedford tomorrow, keep in mind the rain but don't bring your umbrella. And temperatures for late morning will be in the 78 to 82 range.

Town leaders in Altavista say the closing of Lane Furniture will affect their community for years to come.

The 500 plus lay-offs come just as AO Smith plans to shut down its Altavista plant this month.
The town recently hired Lynchburg's former economic development director as a consultant to help attract businesses to the area.
But town officials admit finding another big company like Lane Furniture will be almost impossible.

A shooting overnight in Henry County has left a 25 year old Axton man dead.
((Sih-COH-lun)) Sykolin Tinsley's body was found lying on State Route 57 around 1-30 this morning.
Deputies say it appears he had been shot several times.
19 year old Johnnie Spencer of Martinsville is charged with first degree murder.

A landmark in the town of Goshen is about to get a makeover.

The bridge over the Calfpasture River was built in the days of horse-drawn carriages.
The steel truss span has a structure similar to a Tinker Toy.
The renovated bridge will look much the same, but be stronger and wider and carry more traffic.
It cost 16-thousand dollars to build back in 1891.
The estimated cost of the renovation project is over 2-million dollars.
