When officers went inside the home they found Gibson's mother, 40 year old Annette Gibson and his cousin 30 year old George Patterson stabbed to death with a bayonet. Authorities described the scene as gruesome.

Bedford County authorities report a serious boating accident on Smith Mountain Lake last night.
Officials say the accident involved three boats that collided near the State Park on the Roanoke channel around 10 pm.

A man is accused of running over three people at a party in Patrick County. One is in critical condition and the two others are seriously injured.

[TAKE PINNACLE BOARD] Deputies arrested 28 year old Anthony Eugene Lambert, after he allegedly plowed into several cars and a group of people. Toby Rorrer, Gilbert Hylton and Rocky Foley were hospitalized after authorities say Lambert hit them in the parking lot of the Woolwine Wildlife Building.

All of the men were reportedly at a birthday party held at the building when witnesses say an argument broke out. The Sheriff's department says Lambert sped off after careening into the group of people... His truck slid off the road several yards away. Lambert then ran off into nearby woods... where authorities located him this morning. He is being held without bond.

After allegedly fleeing the scene of a minor accident, one man has died and another may be facing charges.

Virginia State Police responded to an accident on Mount Pleasant Road shortly after 8-o-clock last night, when they found a Hyundai sedan turned over in an embankment. Troopers then found a pickup truck a short distance away. A man came out of the woods and told them he and his father had run away from the accident, and that his father had suffered a heart attack in the woods. Troopers then found the body of 65-year-old Simon -J- Cox. Even though State Police believe Cox was driving the pickup at the time of the accident, charges could be pending.

The seven-point-nine -magnitude quake rocked the region for more than a minute on Saturday afternoon, toppling churches, buildings and homes and damaging landmark cathedrals.
Peru's president flew over the southern part of the country today, evaluating the damage.
The quake injured hundreds and left thousands camped out overnight in parks and streets.
Peru's Geophysical Institute said 106 aftershocks have occurred since the initial quake.
It was apparently felt as far away as 260 miles east of its epicenter.

The Atlanta Braves completed a three game sweep at Shea beating the New York Mets 8 to 4.

The Braves jumped out to the early lead.
Andrew Jones hits the grounder into left centerfield driving in his second run of the game and the Braves led the Mets 2 to nothing in the third.
The Mets answered in their half of the third. Timo Perez hits a double to left field scoring a run to make it 2 to 1 Braves.
New York then tied the score Desi Relaford hits this line drive past Chipper Jones at third it scores Perez and the game was tied at 2 to 2.

There's a unique soccer camp going on in the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas.

The camp will continue throughout the summer and it will als reach into Blacksburg and Bedford County.

The Vulture from the Norfolk Zoo got loose and no one could bring him home.
That comes as no surprise, after all, this raptor's wing span is eight feet wide, and the Vulture can fly higher than any bird in its family. This bird was anything but flighty...Falconers tried everything from food traps to a noose, but to no avail. (------------) Finally the vulture was caught and he is now making his way home with Zoo Keepers.
