Roanoke's Highter Education Center is getting some National attention.

U-S Representative Bob Goodlatte will tour the Higher Ed Center today, along with other members of the House subcommittee that focusses on higher education.
Goodlatte will also hold a round-table discussion about the center, which his press secretary says may serve as a national model.
15 institutions, including Virginia Tech, Hollins and Radford have teamed up to bring high-tech education to the Roanoke Valley via the higher education center.

A Franklin County teen faces two counts of capital murder for stabbing and killing his mother and cousin. Police say James Edward Gibson used a bayonet to kill both victims. Kate Weidaw reports.

((The Franklin County Sheriff's office sealed off this home on Cooks Knob Road in the Waidsboro section of the county after they found two people stabbed to death inside. Officials were led to the home when 19 year old James Edward Gibson called police around 6 Saturday morning saying they were all gone and he was at home alone.

When officers went inside the home they found Gibson's mother, 40 year old Annette Gibson and his cousin 30 year old George Patterson stabbed to death with a bayonet. Authorities described the scene as gruesome.

Outside the house Annette's husband and Patterson's parents watched as officers took the bodies from the house. Right now the 19 year old says the reason he killed the pair was because he snapped. Gibson will be arraigned on two counts of capital murder on Tuesday. Until then he will remain in the Franklin County Jail being evaulating by mental health professionals. One man is in critical condition and two others are seriously injured after being run over by a car after a party in Patrick County.

[TAKE PINNACLE BOARD] Deputies arrested the driver of the car - 28 year old Anthony Eugene Lambert, after officials say plowed into several cars and a group of people. Toby Rorrer, Gilbert Hylton and Rocky Foley were hospitalized after authorities say Lambert hit them in the parking lot of the Woolwine Wildlife Building.

All of the men were reportedly at a birthday party held at the building when witnesses say an argument broke out. The Sheriff's department says Lambert sped off after careening into the group of people... His truck slid off the road several yards away. Lambert then ran off into nearby woods... where authorities located him. He is currently being held without bond.

After more than year of fighting to stop Virginia Gas from building a NEW gas pipeline through southwest Virginia, residents say they won.
NUI Corporation, the new owner of Virginia Gas, has decided to build the pipeline along side an existing easement.

More than 30 people joined pipeline opponent Brent Riley at his home to celebrate.
