A 19-year-old Franklin County man charged with killing his mother and cousin faced the judge today, alone.

James Gibson had no legal counsel or family members with him as he was arraigned today on two counts of capital murder.
He allegedly killed his mother, Annette Gibson. and her nephew, George Patterson, with a large, military- style knife.
A motive for the murders has not yet been determined. Gibson told authorities he "just snapped."
Judge Sarah Rice told Gibson an attorney would be appointed to represent him within the next two days.

Two sheriff's deputies charged with sexual misconduct are expected to plead guilty .. but two others will go to trial. All four are charged with having sexual contact with inmates at the Danville jail.
Deputies Doyle Cook and Steve Terry plan to plead guilty next month.
Deputies Marvin Riggins and Ernest Carter have trials scheduled next month. They have pled NOT guilty.

A Botetourt County jail inmate is accused of making coffee taste like dishwater... and making three deputies sick.

Thomas Lehman (LAY-man) is charged with assaulting police officers, and tampering with food.
The sheriff's office says Lehman put tablets used to sterilize rinse water in the deputies' coffee last Sunday.
They developed stomach and throat problems and had to be sent to the hospital.
They're fine now.
Lehman has been transferred to the Alleghany County jail.
