The director of the Roanoke Civic Center says the East Coast Hockey League has confirmed the Roanoke Express will return for the 2001- 2002 season.
But the ownership of the team is still in question.
Roanoke Civic Center Director Jim Evans has told News 7 that the E-C-H-L has committed the Express to another season in Roanoke and has scheduled 36 games.
Even if the franchise is purchased Evans says the team will remain in Roanoke for the upcoming season.

Roanoke Police are hoping someone will remember seeing any one of three vehicles .. and help solve the case of Jennifer Barker, the woman missing since showing up for work at Roanoke's main post office more than a week ago.

Authorities in Lee County say Harold Ray Presley died today following a shootout with a man who had been fleeing from authorities near tupelo. Presley found the man in a shed and apparently was shot several times but managed to return fire, killing the suspect.

She remains free on bond.

Nearly 20 firefighters worked on the five-acre fire on Tinker Mountain. Steep terrain slowed down efforts to extinguish the blaze, but officials say they have the fire about 50-percent contained. Mark McGwire says reports in a St. Louis news paper are off base when it comes to his retirement.

McGwire says he thinks about retirement but doesn't know when it will come. He's stuck in the worst slump of his career at 0 and 29.
He did say it would take at least a year from him to be full strength from a recent knee injury
The 37 year old first baseman said he was embarrassed about the slump that has dropped his average to 183.

At 24, Tim has completed high school. He's a math whiz, but has some trouble communicating.

Tim and Duke have friends everywhere. And these daily visits have helped Tim communicate with others.
Duke draws on his coaching experience, which includes a stint with Virginia Tech in the late 80's, The Roanoke Rush in the 90's and now the Steam, when helping Tim.

Patrick Rafter moved into his second straight Wimbledon final yesterday.

Rafter was playing Andre Agassi for the third straight time in the semi finals.
The two time U.S. Open champ would take it to the limit in a marathon match with Agassi.
And when Rafter fired the last winner he wouild take the match in five sets, 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, and 8-6. Rafter lost in the finals last year to Pete Sampras.
