15-year old Lee Summerlin was arraigned in a Roanoke courtroom this morning on abduction charges. The teen allegedly drove the van the morning Jennifer Barker disappeared.

The trio was found by Franklin County authorities on Friday in Rocky Mount. According to Barker, DewEy Summerlin was sent to jail several times for stalking her. She says the latest incident was Dewey's way to get revenge.
But Summerlin's step daughter paints a different picture of the relationship. Angie Harmon says Barker played mind games with Summerlin and her 15 year old brother was caught in the middle.

A date's been set for convicted murderer Jeffrey Allen Thomas to die.

At a formal sentencing hearing in Pulaski today, Judge Colin Gibb ruled Thomas will be executed for the murder of Tara Munsey. The decision follows a jury's recommendation in March for capital punishment. Munsey's mother, Kitty Irwin, testified today that she's opposed to the death penalty and that she doesn't want to see Thomas killed.

In Georgia, a court will decide if "the chair" is cruel and unusual punishment.
Opponents argue it's a painful and horrific death- saying it burns the flesh and cooks the brain.
The state insists electricity causes "instantaneous unconsciousness" so there's no pain.
The court will decide if Georgia will switch to lethal injection.

Police were called to the Virginia Employment Commission around 7:30 this morning after someone spotted a man lying in the parking lot.
Authorities found 33-year- old Anthony A. Revely dead from an apparent self- inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

In Bedford County, authorities say they finally have some answers to a six- year- old murder mystery.
42-year old Roy Denver Sluder was arrested Friday in High Point, North Carolina and charged with killing his estranged wife in June of 1995.
Loria Sluder died of a gunshot wound to the head inside her husband's mobile home near Goodview.

The Oakland A's slugging sensation Jason Giambi, last year's American League MVP put on a clinic in the opening round setting an event record with 14 homeruns in a single round. But the homers aren't carried over and Giambi didn't even make the finals. Neither did Barry Bonds, who was ousted by the man who has been hot on his homerun heels all season long - Luis Gonzalez. The Diamondbacks slugger beat Bonds in the semi-finals and then topped Sammy Sosa in the championship round to claim this year's homerun derby title.

The Virginia women's state amateur golf tournament is taking place in central Virginia this week at the Boonsboro Country Club. Roanoke's Dot Bolling the defending champ was exempt from qualifying and could sit back and watch today as the medalist honor went to Haymarket's Patti Anctil who shot a 74. Valeta Pittman shot a 76 while Fran Hensley carded a 77. Martinsville's Becky Poindexter earned the final spot in the championship flight. In one other note, Pam Turpin had a hole in one of the par 3 128 yard fifth hole. Match play begins tomorrow.

Area athletes will become world travelers this week when two Roanoke Stars teams leave the valley for a 19 day trip to Denmark and Sweden.
The U-15 boys and U-14 girls leave Thursday.

Tech football is about to get a couple of nice schedule upgrades.

Tech athletic director Jim Weaver officially announced today that N.C. State is coming back on the Tech schedule to play the Hokies' in 2005 and 2006. The two team have met 44 times over the years.

Also, the Tech-LSU series set for 2002 and 2004 is all but finalized. This series would begin in Blacksburg on August 31st of next year. ESPN will televise the game.

The Cavaliers are working out a deal to switch from Reebok to Nike products. The new look will include pants with stripes down the side and jerseys with players names on the back. The players numbers will also appear on the tops of the shoulder pads.
Reebok's contract to outfit UVa's teams ended after this past school year.

((For those not in to organized sports, how about the 2 week old Thoreson Fitness course. It's 150 meters long and involves running, hopping, jumping, climbing and hurdling. The goal is maintaining fitness for kids. ((:)) Steve Holt, the former owner of the Roanoke Wrath, the pro soccer team that recently folded, is now the East coast distributor of the Thoreson fitness course. ((STEVE MASON:)) ((:))
But for now, Rising Star campers are the gineapigs. A few of the campers broke in the obstacle course. ((:)) Then, Steam receiver Kenan McWorter gave it a try. His time, under a minute. Bedford's hospital is under new management.

As of today Bedford Memorial Hospital is jointly owned by Carilion Health System and Centra Health. Officials with both organizations signed the necessary paperwork this morning. They say the union will allow the hospital to better serve the community and grow certain services like the cardiac rehabilitation program, orthopedics and gastroenterology.
