((SUMMERTIME IS TYPICALLY A TIME FOR CUTS AND SCRAPES SO ITS IMPORTANT TO BE UP TO DATE IN HOW TO CARE FOR THEM. BUT THERE ARE 4 COMMON MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE IN CARING FOR WOUNDS-
NUMBER ONE: IS NOT USING PRESSURE TO STOP THE BLEEDING.
THE BEST WAY TO STOP BLEEDING IS TO HOLD DIRECT PRESSURE ON A WOUND. YOU DONT WANT TO DAB AT ITS AND BE LOOKING AT IT EVERY 30 SECONDS TO SEE IF ITS STOPPED BLEEDING.
MISTAKE NUMBER TWO.- YOU DON'T CLEAN THE WOUND PROPERLY.
NOW YOU MIGHT THINK PEROXIDE OR IODINE IS THE BEST THING TO USE TO CLEAN A CUT. BUT AT FULL STRENGTH THEY CAN DAMAGE NORMAL TISSUE. THE BEST THING TO USE TO CLEAN A WOUND IS SIMPLE TAP WATER.
MISTAKE NUMBER THREE IS TRYING TO AVOID STITCHES.
SOME REASONS YOU MAY NEED THEM INCLUDE A WOUND THAT WONT STOP BLEEDING.. A WOUND THAT LARGE OR GAPING-- IF YOU'VE GOT COSMETIC CONCERNS- OR IF THE BODY PART THATS CUT DOESN'T WORK LIKE IT SHOULD.
AND HERE'S A QUICK REMINDER- DEPENDING ON THE BODY PART - WE USUALLY HAVE 6-12 HOURS TO STITCH A CUT.
AND MISTAKE NUMBER 4- FORGETTING THAT TETANUS SHOT
IF YOU HAVEN'T HAD A TETANUS SHOT IN TEN YEARS THEN YOU NEED ONE- IF ITS A DIRTY WOUND THEN ITS FIVE."
BOTTOM LINE: IF YOU'RE NOT SURE ABOUT ANY CUT OR SCRAPE - GET IT CHECKED OUT--

Heavy rains flooded parts of Virginia and West Virginia. Yesterday, crews rescued residents trapped inside mobile homes washed away in rain-swollen creeks in Wyoming County.
At least one person died after being swept away. Meanwhile, dozens of people were rescued in Tazewell County after being stranded in their homes. The Red Cross opened three shelters in Tazewell County to assist families that were forced from their homes.
