The General Assembly has approved the republican plan to re-draw the state's eleven congressional districts
It makes some modest last-minute changes to several area districts, the most notable being in Alleghany County.

Steve Smallshaw has the story.

It will be another ten years before Democrats get a crack at shifting the state's political boundaries again.
Along mostly party lines, the House and Senate voted to move most of Allegheny County and the cities of Covington and Clifton Forge out of the 6th and into the 9th District, while Bob Goodlatte's 6th District picks up more of Roanoke and Bedford Counties.

The plan now goes to the governor and then on to the Justice Department for final review.

Meanwhile the General Assembly's new Senate districts were approved by the Justice Department.
The news comes less than a month after the federal government approved the General Assembly's redistricting plan for the House of Delegates. The G-O-P-backed plan transports the southwestern Virginia district of Democrat Madison Marye (MUH-ree) into Fairfax.
Democrats say they are disappointed that the plan received federal approval because they believe the districts were intentionally and illegally drawn along racial lines.
