The trash has been sitting there ever since the city made changes to its garbage pickup procedures.
It means some residents must move their trash cans from the alleys to the curb on the streets.

Along mostly party lines, the House and Senate voted to move most of Allegheny County and the cities of Covington and Clifton Forge out of the 6th and into the 9th District, while Bob Goodlatte's 6th District picks up more of Roanoke and Bedford Counties.
The plan now goes to the governor and then on to the Justice Department for final review.

Meanwhile, the Justice Department has approved the General Assembly's new state Senate districts.
The news comes less than a month after the federal government approved the General Assembly's redistricting plan for the House of Delegates.
The G-O-P-backed plan transports the southwestern Virginia district of Democrat Madison Marye (MUH-ree) into Fairfax.
Democrats say they're disappointed that the plan received federal approval because they believe the districts were intentionally and illegally drawn along racial lines.

But Jesse lost so much blood that many of his vital organs are damaged.
HIs kidneys still require dialysis, his lungs still have the support of

If that swelling is excessive the pressure inside the skull will rise
and if that pressure rises higher than his blood pressure then the blood
flow to the brain stops and we loose him.
Right now tests show brain activity similar to a deep sleep.
The eight year old has amazed doctors in that he is alive at all. A
seven foot bull shark viciously attacked the young boy in knee deep
water at this Pensacola beach. His arm was pulled from the shark's belly
after the boy's uncle helped wrestle the shark to shore.

Rough seas and foggy weather have prevented scientists from rescuing an endangered right whale off the coast of Massachusetts.

They were hoping to make another try at removing a nylon fishing line that's embedded in the whale's jaw.
The whale did not respond to a sedative used in a a failed rescue attempt last week.

The rescue crew is made up of three veterinarians and other specialists.

D-S-I Toys is recalling about 238- thousand stuffed toy kittens.
"Kitty Kitty Kittens" contain contaminated water that could cause diarrhea in children who are already sick or have weak immune systems.
The company found the contamination during regular testing, but say there are NO reports of any kids getting sick.
Parents are being told to take the toys away immediately.

That's why the Virginia Lottery may make some changes.

Lottery officials say ten years ago, when these pictures were taken, a 20 million dollar Lotto jackpot would attract five or six times the number of players expected to buy tickets for tonight's drawing.
The lottery cites "jackpot fatigue" .. the mega-multi-state jackpots .. for the lessened interest in "only" 20 million.

Health officials are trying to discover the source of a salmonella outbreak in the Lynchburg area.
32 people have all reported getting sick between June 17th and June 30th.
Investigators believe most of the people contracted the illness from the same restaurant but can not pinpoint which one.
Signs of poisoning include diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.
Symptoms occur 6 to 12 hours after contamination.

Randolph Beales.. the hand-picked successor of gubernatorial candidate Mark Earley.. won unanimous approval from the General Assembly yesterday.
Beales will serve the remainder of Earley's term which ends this year.
He'd been serving in the post since June when Earley stepped down to run for governor.

Roanoke City officials say garbage piled up along Day, Elm, and Marshall Avenues should be picked up today.
The trash has been sitting there ever since the city made changes to its garbage pickup procedures.
It means some residents must move their trash cans from the alleys to the curb on the streets.
Officials say route adjustments should continue for the next three to four weeks.

Wendi Schultz will resign as Executive Director of Festival in the Park to take the position beginning September fourth.
