Roanoke city officials are investigating charges brought up by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference against the Roanoke Police Department and the Roanoke City Sheriffs Department.

Hall says her son questioned Officer Riley Meador (Med-dor) about being pulled over for suspicion of drunken driving and that the officer used pepper spray and hit Hall on the back of the knees. Hall says when the officer came toward her son, he hit the officer with a flashlight.

One hundred new jobs are coming to Tazwell County, thanks to a new call center.
That's good news for the region that was hit hard by last week's floods.
A company called VeriSign Incorporated, a provider of Internet trust services, will establish a call center near Bluefield.
The company secured a 74-thousand dollar grant from the Governor's Opportunity fund for site preparation.

An accident is backing up traffic on Interstate 81 this morning. State police say the southbound lane is blocked at exit 119 in Christiansburg.
Authorities say a tractor trailer and a truck are involved.

The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control reports record sales for the fiscal year that just ended.
Virginia stores sold 382-million dollars worth of liquor -- up 27-million dollars over the year before.
The Governor credits management reforms that make sales more "attractive and efficient" in A-B-C stores.
Better management or just thirsty Virginians -- either way, it means 172 million dollars in annual profit goes into the state General Fund.

State police say at least three people are believed to be injured following an accident between a tractor trailer and a construction truck on Interstate 81 this morning. The accident happened around 7:30 at mile marker 117, which is near the Christiansburg exit. State police say one Southbound lane is blocked and will stay blocked for some time. We'll have more information as soon as it become available.

Alexander Hudson was 14 when he was arrested for the robbery and murder of a Rocky Mount man.
Authorities say that on New Year's Eve, Hudson and two friends used a shoelace to strangle 61-year-old Ralph English in his bed.
Hudson's attorney claims the boy's been held too long without trial.
The judge released him from jail to his parents' custody Sunday... just 8 hours past the deadline for a speedy trial.

A Danville man faces life behind bars instead of the death penalty after pleading guilty to a Pittsylvania County murder case.

20- year- old Sean Clayborne pled guilty last week to first degree murder in a plea agreement with the Commonwealth's Attorney.
Clayborne was charged with capital murder in the shooting death of Antoine Lamont Jones last July.
Jones was shot ten times including twice in the back of the head.
Clayborne faces life in prison when a judge sentences him on August 20th.

A grand jury has indicted a woman accused of killing her four year old son in Henry County.
Brenda Donielle Norman is charged with second degree murder for the death of Stephen Kelly.
At a preliminary hearing last month, the emergency room doctor testified Norman stated "I killed my son."
The medical examiner also testified the boy died of blunt force injuries all over his body.
If convicted, Norman faces five to forty years in prison.
