An overnight police chase that began in Rocky Mount ends in Roanoke County when a Franklin County sheriff's deputy shoots a teenager in the neck.

The deputy was part of a running roadblock, trying to catch a group of teenagers who'd allegedly stolen three vehicles in Boones Mill. When one sheriff's car was run off the road, Deputy Tim Taylor fired about three shots at the speeding Suburban.

After leading police on a chase through Rocky Mount, the Chevy Suburban ended up on Willow Branch Road, just inside Roanoke County.
Four young people were in the vehicle, including the 16-year old from Truevine with a bullet in the back of the neck. He was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. The others were taken into custody.
Sheriff Quint Overton says he believes at least five people were involved, including three juveniles- -one of them the younger SISTER of an adult involved.

An audit of the school system's Human Resources Department found that more than 30- people with criminal backgrounds, including one teacher and one assistant football coach, were hired over the past two years.

Two Shuttle Atlantis astronauts spent much of the morning strolling in deep space--

The spacewalk started almost an hour late because of computer problems.
But the pair was able to install a set of oxygen tanks on the new 164-million- dollar entryway to the international space station.
It was the second spacewalk of the mission, which has been extended by one day.
After un-docking from the space station Sunday night, it'll return to earth Tuesday.

Yesterday head coach Perry Florio inked a three year contract extension that will keep him in charge of the team on the ice through 2004. Terms of the deal were not released, but it is a huge relief for Florio, his family and the returning players he hopes to bring back into the fold.
