This one's been a shelter since 1958... taking in strays from Roanoke and Vinton, as well as Craig, Roanoke and Botetourt Counties.
It's been damaged by three floods.
Cages are too small... and there's only cold water to wash them.
Disease spreads easily among animals.
And there's no space to exercise them.

The new shelter will be located near the old one.
It will be more than four times the size.
And it will be more visitor-friendly, with playrooms, education rooms and an adoption center.

Two teenage girls reported missing from the Presbyterian Children's Home in Wytheville have been found.
Wytheville Police say one of the girls' fathers found them at home and took them back to the facility.
Meanwhile, four Boy Scouts reported missing from the National Scout Jamboree near Fredericksburg have been found.


Authorities say the scouts from Tanzania turned themselves in to Washington police last night and are seeking asylum.

Governor Jim Gilmore is also asking for federal assistance.

A daring attempt to rescue three men stuck on a jetty in Queens.

The three men are believed to be fishermen who got caught on the end of Breezy Point when the tide came in.
Divers drove out on a boat and swam to the jetty as a police helicopter hovered above.

Toronto newspapers report Carter is close to signing a six year contract extension worth somewhere in the neighborhood of 94 million dollars. The ride was recently vacated by Kenny Wallace. Mast took over the car this past weekend at Pocono. He will qualify the 27 car Friday at Indy for the Brickyard 400. Mast has competed in only nine races this season and is currently 46th in points.
