Chicago Transit Authority officials say one commuter train rear-ended another train on elevated tracks just north of the city's downtown Loop.
The collision occurred shortly after 9 a-m, and left passengers inside sweltering packed cars with no power or air conditioning.
It also turned much of the city's train system into a commuter's nightmare.
Authorities say the injuries are mostly bumps, bruises and cuts.

The demonstrators used violence to make their point that they want an end to U-S Navy bombing exercises on the island.

Navy officials say the protesters fired a flare at personnel inside the base.
Earlier, some people on a small boat fired a flare at a helicopter and crew.
No one was seriously injured in the skirmishes--
But they did resurrect debate over whether the U-S should maintain its military presence in Puerto Rico.
